What exactly is Sports Massage?
Sports massage is used in many ways and benefits anyone who moves, no matter what level of exercise or intensity
More than a treatment for injuries, sports massage produces overwhelming benefits physically, physiologically, and psychologically
As well as treating, it is ideal to prevent injuries occurring and can be used pre, during or post an event
Due to overexertion or overuse, minor injuries can occur that cause a great deal of pain and poor athletic performance. Sports massage helps alleviate pain and prevent such injuries that greatly affect flexibility, mobility, response time, and overall athletic performance
Sports Massage purpose & benefits
Sports massage is a more vigorous style of massage and aims to increase blood flow to muscles and is designed to prepare the athlete for their best performance, reduce fatigue, and relieve muscle swelling and tension.
Heavily exercised muscles may also lose their capacity to relax, which causes chronically tight muscles and loss of flexibility. This lack of flexibility is often linked to muscle soreness and predisposes to injuries. Sports Massage helps reduce and prevent the often painful and debilitating effects of DOMS (delayed onset of muscle soreness).
Integrated into training, your muscles will relax and revitalise, and you’ll feel calmer and more focused before and after events.
What exactly is Remedial Massage?
Remedial massage is more specific to a ‘problem area’, rather than an all over body massage.
Remedial massage is a deeper therapy which involves the assessment and treatment of muscles, tendons, ligaments and connective tissues of the body to assist in rehabilitation, pain reduction and injury management.
If you have long term chronic aches or suffered a recent injury resulting in structural pain and/or loss of function, a remedial massage assists in returning to normal health.
It requires us to get an in-depth understanding of your unique needs. From this we use our clinical expertise to select the correct techniques and devise and implement the most beneficial treatment plan
Remedial Massage purpose & benefits
Remedial Massage treatment aims to reverse the negative physical effects of pain and discomfort you may be experiencing.
A remedial massage is designed to balance muscle length, tension and tone which will in turn will promote the return of normal joint, capsular and bone position. The increase in the flow of blood and lymph fluid, particularly to injured areas, heals muscles and removes blockages, damaged cells, scar tissue and adhesions resulting from injury and dysfunction.
Remedial massage reduces stress, heightens mental alertness, improves posture and is paramount in escaping the vicious cycle of chronic complaints.
Studies have shown that remedial massage also provides positive health benefits for disorders such as insomnia, headaches, depression and anxiety, back pain, arthritis, high blood pressure, chronic pain and constipation.
